The “About Me” section

It has taken me quite a while to start writing my first ever blog entry, it has been three weeks since I set up this blog but about 9 months prior to that I actually decided I might like to write a blog. “Why so long?” I hear you ask, well first and foremost, a lot of self-doubtI doubted whether I had anything of interest to write about; I also asked myself “why add another mum blog to the already thousands (probably millions) out there?”, “how could mine be any different?“. And so the cycle of questions would go round and round my head. Well, eventually I came to the realisation that it doesn’t matter that other people are doing the exact same thing. I’m not here to prove anything to anyone else. I am here to blog about the ordinary mum things in my own way, and if nothing else it will be a form of catharsis. So let me get on with actually introducing myself.

Introductions…

My name is Chanel, I am in my late twenties and a mummy to a beautiful 13 month old named Freya. My husband of almost 3 years is my rock, and a truly amazing human especially as he is a very hands on dad. We have a jackapoo puppy named Lola, a lionhead black rabbit named Tonks (yes, we are Harry Potter fans!), and two tortoises named Merry and Pippin (yes, we are Lord of the Rings fans too!). We love animals obviously, so much so I wanted to be a vet for the longest time, however I soon found out I did not have the stomach for it… So I studied Zoology instead, and that is where I met my husband.

That’s us!

I am a trained secondary school science teacher, however I currently work as a maths tutor (it’s a long story… but I will write about it as I have a lot to say on this issue!). My passion has always been art and crafts, I love being creative – my main focus at the moment is crochet and sewing. There are so many things I would like to create and learn but one step at a time: oh time, there never seems to be enough of it, and it passes us by so quickly.

Now lets not forget about my mild caffeine addiction. Not only do I need at least two cups of coffee in the morning but I love to go to coffee shops and have a coffee (and cake) whenever the opportunity arises.

This blog….

Over the course of my maternity leave, I realised that I really wanted to be very present in my daughters’ life. I did not want to miss out on things such as first words, crawling, first steps etc. So I thought why not make my passion my job and work from home, in and around my family. My goal is to have my own craft business in time. I have started this blog to follow my journey as I try to figure out the world of small business alongside being a stay at home mum.

As I said before, this blog will just be about my experiences, I don’t know all the answers and I offer no judgement on other parents on a similar journey. Just knowing you are not the only one experiencing sleepless nights, teething babies and the struggle to find time for oneself and for your partner is help enough.

Welcome to my journey, and please bear with me while I try and figure out the world of blogging and my place in it.
