Review: Bamboo toothbrush and natural toothpaste

I’ve been wanting to swap our plastic toothbrushes with bamboo ones for a while now, but only just taken the plunge. The motivation behind it was to reduce the plastic waste we are producing. Plus I have been following Acala online for a while on Instagram, and their posts are really captivating.

I decided to purchase the BamBaw bamboo toothbrushes in a pack of 4. I like the fact it is a 4 pck because I won’t have to worry about ordering again for another 6 months. I am really lazy like that. FYI these toothbrushes are no longer available through Acala anymore, however, Acala have their own version for £9.99. So these toothbrushes each have a different animal footprint, meaning if they are for a family (or for a couple) then you know whose is whose. Mine currently has a dog paw print, while my husbands’ has a bear paw print. The bristles are recyclable and the handle of the brush is compostable. So absolutely no waste going to landfill. Bonus! The bristles are really soft, but I don’t think that hinders the performance at all.

I also decided to try a natural toothpaste that comes in a glass jar. I went for Georganics natural toothpaste, English peppermint flavour. Now this is probably the bit that I am still getting used to, because the toothpaste is a really different texture to what I have been used to. The toothpaste is non-foaming and is quite thick, so when you first apply it it gets stuck on your teeth. However, once you start brushing it gets a lot better. I think the toothpaste makes my teeth feel really clean, and I really like the results. I asked my husband what his thoughts were on both of these products and he said the toothbrush is absolutely fine, but he wasn’t sold of the toothpaste – the main reason being he felt his teeth didn’t feel as clean.

Overall, I am really pleased with my purchases, and feel good about reducing plastic waste in a small way. Ordering from Acala online was great too – so easy and all of the packaging was 100% recyclable. If you have any recommendations for plastic free beauty products that you have got on well with, let me know in the comments!

Bye for now,
