It’s finally Easter weekend! It is so late this year, but we, in the UK, are in luck with some lovely warm weather coming our way. Yay!!! The traditional religious celebrations are often forgotten about in our modern society, and the focus has shifted to chocolate and indulgence. However, I think each family tends to have their own set of traditions that they do year after year.
For us as a family unit (3) we do not celebrate the religious side at all. Myself and my husband have pondered on the oddity of celebrating a religious holiday, when we are not religious. Why do we do it? I think we continue with the celebration because we enjoy the traditional Easter egg hunt and the roast lunch. Plus, it is a long weekend off work – unless you work in restaurants or the like (sorry). I know the biggest part for me, however, is getting together with family and spending time together.
I am really excited this year as my daughter is 20 months and this will be her first egg hunt. Toddlers are exploring and learning new things everyday, it is so much fun to be a part of. I know she is going to love hunting for eggs, bunnies and chicks to put in her basket. I am, however, dreading the chocolate obsession. She hardly ever has chocolate, perhaps an occasional chocolate biscuit or bit of cake but chocolate is not a regular occurrence for her in our house.
In my excitement I have bought a basket, decorative bunnies and little yellow chicks for her to find. As well as, polystyrene (yes very naughty of me ….) eggs for us to decorate.
We had a go at painting them the other day and I was really impressed with how she focused (for about 10min) and painted an egg. I had to paint the rest. I don’t mind though – I’m going to finish decorating them tonight. I am hoping next year we could paint real eggs!
The second best thing about this weekend will be visiting family with my daughter, husband and dog (Lola the jackapoo). The time we spend with family is the most important part of this celebration in my opinion. That is the part of the tradition that I hope we, in our modern hectic lives, have not forgotten. So take time this weekend to cherish the small moments in whichever way you want to enjoy the long weekend.

By for now,
Chanel x
